Becoming an Aerial Applicator can be a very rewarding experience. It gives growers the freedom to fly-and-apply many different inputs by air, both liquid and dry, when and how they choose. Whether you want to apply on your own acres or start a drone application business, we are here to assist you every step of the way.
The FAA is a federal agency responsible for the safety of civil aviation. Among many other activities, the FAA issues and enforces regulations and minimum standards covering manufacturing, operating, and maintaining aircraft. Before legally operating your drone in agricultural applications, you will work with the FAA to secure and record items such as a Third Class medical certificate, a remote pilot certificate, drone registration and an Agricultural Aircraft Operations certificate (unless flying as an employee for an existing operator).
The Wisconsin DATCP's mission is to partner with all the citizens of Wisconsin to grow the economy by promoting quality food, healthy plants and animals, sound use of land and water resources, and a fair marketplace. In addition to many other items, DATCP is charged with enforcing laws pertaining to the use of EPA registered pesticides and fertilizers applied within the state of Wisconsin along with applicator testing and licensing. Before legally operating your drone to aerially apply a controlled product in Wisconsin, you will work with DATCP to obtain your applicator and business licenses.
